Pet Urine & Odor Removal

He’s a great friend. You make allowances for his accidents. He’s not disposable, but sometimes he strains your relationship. Sound familiar? Let us help.

Pet urine removal on carpet, rugs, upholstery or hard floors is our specialty. It’s never occurred to you that people like us have actually spent significant time perfecting the craft. Let’s review some of the factors involved in removing pet odors from your home.

Pet urine on carpet, rugs, upholstery or leather can do much more than cause unpleasant odor.

Facts You Need to Know About Pet Urine in Your Carpeting!

  • Urine deposited on carpet does not stay on the surface. It also penetrates the fibers and contaminates both the backing of the carpet and the flooring material below the carpet. Often, without your knowledge, pets will urinate continually in the same general location, causing significant contamination and damage.
  • Urine odors can permeate from the floor, be it cement or wood, from the tack strips, and even from the framework of the house behind the walls.
  • As urine dries, the liquid evaporates but the urine crystals become even more concentrated and pungent. Simple cleaning will not remove this odor. In fact, these urine crystals are frequently re-activated by moisture. Have you noticed that urine odors become more noticeable as humidity increases? Similarly, the moisture of any cleaning process may cause the urine odor to become more pronounced.
  • Urine is a complex mixture consisting of but not limited to: urea, body fluids and enzymes, scenting oils, undigested food, water, salt, etc. Damage caused by pets will vary by species (dog or cat), pet size, concentration of urine, ph, color of urine, color of carpet, and animal habits.

The Power of P.U.R.T.™

When you call us out to treat pet odor, there must be a good reason right? We have a range of ways to help you eradicate the odor that the technician will discuss with you. After his ultraviolet inspection, he will assess the damage and recommend a plan. Sometimes it can be simple-a topical PURT treatment with accompanying flushing to yield the results you want. Other times, your goal may be to completely eradicate the urine odors with a higher degree of success than could be attained topically.
Your best strategy will depend upon extent of the damage, the type of animal (cat, dog, etc.), and location of damage in your home, among other factors. Successful pet odor treatment depends on is to do more than just “treat” the affected area(s). The goal is actually odor eradication. This requires a comprehensive approach to pet odor problems.

  1. Subtraction – the first step in successful odor removal is just that-odor removal.
    • Extract The Urine: We do this in a variety of ways. Flushing spot by spot, or maybe even controlled flooding of areas in conjunction with pad replacement.
    • Discard & Replace Pad: With highly contaminated carpet cushion, we pull back the carpet, cut it out and discard it.
    • Send it to the Rug Pit: Traditional washing is still an option for small pieces of carpet (like a stair landing) or Rugs. We employ traditional hand washing techniques at our shop. We have urine a decontamination bath available for 100% effectiveness.
  2. Treatment – our PURT III formula is a result of more than 20 years of innovation and lab experimentation.
    • Attack The Odors: Fabulous molecular pairing: PURT actually pairs off with urea molecules and other odor causing components of urine and destroys them. They are reduced to a “rubble” of non-offensive components.
    • Make It Smell Great Now: Fresh scented masking: PURT smells great, and it gives your home a welcome replacement to the previous odor while it does is excellent work of eradicating the urine.
    • Lay On The Grenade: Encapsulation: That’s right, PURT has component in it which actually traps odors with a liquid polymer barrier. It combines elements of chemical pairing with urine components on a molecular level to break them down into non-offensive “rubble”. It has a masking agent to provide a fresh scent in your home while it does its good work.
  3. Follow Up – After the subtraction and treatment steps are taken, an evaluation may be needed to see if any additional steps may be necessary.
    • Rinse & Re-Treat: If odor is still present, hit it again. Highly concentrated urine pockets may require overwhelming force.
    • Seal the Subfloor: Eradication means just that. Let’s get the results we need for you to sell that house, or make it fully livable again.
    • Touch up Any Reappearing Spots: PURT treatment gets things wet. It’s inevitable that even though great attempts are made to get dry on the initial visit, if something wicks up or oxidizes a bit and reappears, don’t be shy! Take advantage of our 30-day spot return guarantee. Ask you technician for details.
